When we think about studying the bible, we oftentimes focus exclusively on interpreting an individual verse in light of its immediate context. While this is good, if it is all we do, we will miss the forest for the trees. The discipline of Biblical theology takes the insights learned from a close study of a particular text and zooms back out to view it in light of the entire cannon of scripture. It asks questions like: How does this passage connect to other books by this author? Where does it fit within the canon of Scripture? What unique theological point was the inspired author making? The practice of Biblical Theology allows us to track the storyline of scripture through the entire biblical canon while gaining insight into the teachings and unique features of specific biblical authors and books.

In Biblical Theology I, we will study through the Old Testament book by book. Through this, we will learn to implement Biblical Theology in our personal study of the word. Participants will be asked to read assigned texts before class so that class time can be dedicated to instruction and discussion.
